Wine Making

Maybe you will be surprised, but wine making has been used over more than four thousand years. This means that wines have a strong and interesting history. A sparking wine that can be found in the Champagne region of France it was named after the name of the region: champagne. I’m sure that you already know what is champagne and I’m also sure that you know its taste. There are also other regions in France, such as Burgundy and Bordeaux, where are produced some high quality wine. The best Italian wine comes from Tuscany and the best American wine will always come from California.

In the process of wine making, the grapes are squashed and so the juice is take out. The vintners add sugar and yeast. In case you didn’t know until now, after a certain period of time, the yeast starts to ferment the sugar and so it’s produced alcohol. With all these, the alcohol quantities are in most cases the same, but each type of wine has a different flavor. Of course, these things also depend on the types of grape that are used but also on the circumstances in which the yeast ferments the sugar. For example, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produce rich and hard red wines. Merlot grapes are used to produce lighter red wines and Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are used for white wines. A popular practice in wine making is represented by the year of production. In most cases, good wines have their year of production on the bottle. This practice it’s called the vintage. I’m sure that there is no sense in saying that in some years, vintners produce better wines than in others. All people know that 90% of the red wines will get better in quality as they get older. But how long should this period be? Well, some red wines get better after five years while others after over ten years. The majority of red wines are not launched in the market sooner than two years after they were made. People should also know that white wines don’t improve their quality in time. This is available only for dessert wines and champagne.

People can enjoy wines exactly like they enjoy other types of drinks but they are often consumed with a meal. Did you know that you can match the wine with your food? Well, for a flavored meat such as beef you can choose a hard red wine such as Cabernet or Zinfandel. For meat like lamb or pork it’s recommended a medium bodied red wine like Pinot Noir or Merlot. They are usually the best choice for that type of meat. Fish and chicken are usually consumed with white wines. Chardonnay is the perfect choice for white meat but also for non-meat dish. However, a non-meat meal can also be combined with a Riesling. Keep in mind that sparkling, but also white wines are best served cold. Things change when it comes to red wines because they should be consumed when their temperature is a little bit below than the room temperature.
